Marlen Enright live at The Undergroud Thursday 23rd November 2017. Doors @ 7pm WWW.MARLENEENRIGHT.COM Marlene Enright 'Alchemy' video Marlene Enright 'When The Water Is Hot' video www.facebook.com/marleneenrightmusic twitter.com/mazzygooze www.instagram.com/mazzygooze/ “brilliantly played and superbly produced...ambitious, free-flowing alternative pop songs….a seriously accomplished debut album” ****The Irish Times “Enright’s solo album Placemats And Second Cuts is a rich release...harmonies, organ-lines, spacious arrangements, rolling rhythms and Enright’s voice which carries a magnetic swirl and focus to it.” Nialler 9 Marlene Enright’s solo debut showcases her passions and influences. Written and recorded over a year, the result is a melange of the heavy grooves of RnB, the warmth and nostalgia of great folk songs and the richness of thickly layered harmonies. It is the sound of modern roots music, evolved as it has over decades to something that is unmistakably 21st Century, while still carrying echoes of the past. The title, Placemats and Second Cuts, a line from the outro of the album's closing song, is fitting for this album offers depth and introspection. Says Enright, "Hindsight has made me realise that it's a much more self-reflective album than I initially realised. It speaks of self-doubt, dancing the fine line between feeling comfortable in your own skin and feeling totally lost at sea, indecisiveness, the battle between strength and weakness, passion and apathy, belonging and isolation and self-acceptance." Enright's work has captured the imagination of Irish media over the past 12 months. The release of Placemats & Seconds Cuts on March 24th follows the success of singles ‘123’, ‘Alchemy’, ‘Underbelly’ and ‘When the Water is Hot'. This singer's star steadily rises as Ireland embraces her unfeigned confessional

“Gemma Sugrue is a singer’s singer. Her voice takes me away. Gemma’s tone is exquisite – full bodied, capable of great emotion and also great restraint, her use of dynamics and her incredible versatility – soulful, raw, tender, whether singing rhythm and blues, folk and roots music, opera and even rock are all incredible strengths. You suggest a style and she’s there like a Valkyrie of singing.. However, it’s Gemma’s unique ability to simply serve the song that captures my heart. When singing on my music, she wraps her voice around mine like all the great singers – Aretha, Emmylou, Billie Holiday with fire and passion and love. She’s is in the moment. Gemma is a beautiful and real and authentic voice.”

Jack O’Rourke (Singer/Songwriter)

“Gemma has worked with me in many different scenarios over the years and I’ve found her stellar in all of them – super professional and great fun. She’s is a wealth of knowledge as a vocal coach and I have called on her advice many times.”

Brian Deady (Singer/Songwriter)

“I’ve co hosted many wonderful events with Gemma over the last few years, including our annual Summer Jam in Fitzgerald’s park, and our weekly Summer Breeze sessions in that venue too. Gemma has sang at loads of my other shows aswell and she has appeared on my radio show a number of times too! She is my favourite singer plus a great friend and a total professional to work with, so I can recommend her 100%”
